Summary

Humaira Nazir is an Associate Professor at the School of Art, Design and Architecture (SADA) in the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the institute for Global Health and Development at Aga Khan University, Karachi. Prior to joining Aga Khan University, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Karachi, for nearly ten years, from 2017 to 2026. Her research lies at the intersection of climate change, health, climate-responsive and resilient architecture, urban development, housing and community development, and the built environment. She has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles in international and national journals, including journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, and has contributed book reviews and professional articles. Her research covers topics including flood resilience, indigenous and traditional construction practices, passive design strategies, urban safety, public spaces, housing, urban development, and sustainable communities. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, including research on climate resilience, flood-affected communities, public safety, and climate change and health. Her academic and professional achievements include serving as Project Lead of the Aga Khan University Sustainable Campus Grant (2026) for a climate-responsive campus intervention integrating renewable energy and thermal comfort. She received the 1st Position Poster Presentation Award at the 27th National Health Sciences Research Symposium at Aga Khan University (2026), 2nd Position in the Climate Photography Exhibition (2026), the Best Mentor Award at the Asian Young Designer Awards (AYDA), and Best Teacher Awards at SSUET in two consecutive years (2022 and 2023). She also received the Mehdi Ali Mirza Award for Best Student and Academic Excellence in 2013. She also serves as a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals and has contributed as a conference panelist, thesis jury member, workshop instructor, and external academic evaluator. She has undertaken extensive professional development through courses and training offered by organizations and institutions including the World Health Organization, United Nations agencies, Harvard University, Wageningen University, Columbia University, and Delft University of Technology. She holds a Master of Architecture from NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi (2020) and a Bachelor of Architecture from Dawood University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi (2013). She is a member of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) and an Associate Member of the Institute of Architects, Pakistan (IAP).
