SADA Faculty, Ar./Lec. Anam Tariq Participates in the Biennale College in Venice, 2023

Lecturer Anam Tariq was invited to participate in the Biennale College in Venice in 2023. The Biennale College is a project by the La Biennale di Venezia, dedicated to the practice of young people participating in the artistic fields and in the activities concerning the organizational structure of the Biennale. This initiative is meant to encourage the participation of young talent, offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the experts to develop “creations” that will be part of our Artistic Programs. In line with the general goals of all Biennale Colleges, the first Biennale College Architettura seeked to complement and enrich the 18th International Architecture Exhibition by exploring how to place the exhibition’s central themes, decolonisation and decarbonisation, at the heart of architectural education.

The process culminated in a documentary, which was screened as part of the exhibition. The Biennale College Architettura 2023 was operated through a series of experimental studios, seminars, lectures and reviews, drawing on the rich history of radical and transformative pedagogies that have surfaced in architectural education over the past fifty years. The College thus provided an exploratory space for graduate students, graduates, emerging practitioners, and early-career academics, to critically and creatively engage with each other, with experts and with the two most pressing concerns of our time: decolonisation and decarbonisation.
